Iran-Russia joint drills to pave way for improving bilateral defense co-op

In a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, general Bagheri said, “Based on the decisions of the leaders of both countries, the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are on a path of growth and development”.

“The developments that have taken place in the world today indicate that the era of unipolarity has come to an end, and the structure of the international system is moving towards a multipolar world,” he added.

“The opinion of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution is that long-term cooperation between Iran and Russia is beneficial to both countries, and for this reason, a document on long-term cooperation between Iran and Russia is being drafted. This document has strong military and defense dimensions and can pave the way for the development of long-term cooperation between the two countries,” general Bagheri went on to say.

Emphasizing the need for efforts by both countries to enhance bilateral cooperation, general Bagheri stated, “Despite the development that has taken place in recent years in the relations between the two countries, there are still significant untapped potentials in these relations that must be brought to the desired level with more effort”.

He reminded, “Military sections are among the pioneers elements of improving relations between Iran and Russia, and undoubtedly holding joint military and defense commissions between the two countries can accelerate this path of growth”.

Referring to interactions between naval forces of Russia and Iran, general Bagheri said, “Desirable cooperation has been so far carried out among the naval forces of both countries, and this trend should be developed”.

General Bagheri also announced that Iran is ready to resolve regional disputes and resolve differences between neighboring countries Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Sergei Shoigu, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the hospitality of the Islamic Republic of Iran and stated that the purpose of this trip is to develop defense cooperation in areas of interest to both countries

He also announced Russia’s readiness to resolve disputes between neighboring countries Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Russian defense minister also emphasized cooperation in educational activities, student exchange at university levels, and holding joint military exercises between the two countries.
