Iranians honor late Hezbollah leaders in nationwide ceremonies

People in different Iranian cities participate in symbolic funerals to pay their respects to assassinated Lebanese resistance leaders Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Saffieddine.

The ceremonies were held on Sunday evening in the capital, Tehran, and other cities including Qom, Shiraz, Qeshm, and Zanjan, among others.

Top Iranian officials, including Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami, attended the ceremony in Tehran.

Addressing the ceremony at Imam Khomeini Mosalla, Salami paid tribute to Nasrallah, describing him as the “most distinguished figure” in the Arab world.

“The world takes pride in such personalities,” he said.

Salami said Israel is now weaker than a spider’s web thanks to the steadfastness of the resistance front and their heroic leaders. He promised that the spirit of resistance would continue until the eradication of the Israeli regime.

At the height of the war, Salami said, there was a misconception among Israeli authorities who believed Hezbollah would be defeated if its military and political leaders were assassinated.

“They thought that without their leaders, Hezbollah would be extinguished and that there would be no one left to stand against the Zionist onslaught” in the Gaza Strip, he noted.

The commander pointed out that the Israeli regime was subsequently forced to retreat from Gaza. “Today, the Zionists have conceded to all the demands of Hamas,” he said.

President Masoud Pezeshkian, who also attended the Tehran ceremony, said in a short interview that the resistance front will continue its path despite losing its members.

The enemies of Islam assume that they would be able to stop the path of resistance by killing one or two of its members but this is impossible, the president said.
