Iran’s Salimi won gold in 2024 Paris Olympics

 Salimi defeated Britain’s Caden Cunningham 2-1 to win Iran’s third gold medal in the Games.

Greco-Roman wrestlers Mohammad Hadi Saravi and Saeid Esmaeili had won two gold medals.

Freestyle wrestler Amir Hossein Zare of Iran won a silver medal in the 2024 Olympic Games Saturday night.

Zare suffered a shock 10-9 loss against Geno Petriashvili of Georgia in the final match of 125kg.

Zare had defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Aiaal Lazarev, Canadian Amar Dhesi and Taha Akgül of Turkey on his way to the final.

Zare won a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympic Games.

Earlier in the day, Akgül and Azerbaijan’s Giorgi Meshvildishvili had won bronze medals.

Bronzes went to Rafael Alba of Cuba and Cheick Sallah Cissé of Côte d’Ivoire.

Iranian female taekwondo athletes Nahid Kiani in the -57kg and Mobina Nematzadeh in the -49kg had earlier won a silver and a bronze medal, respectively.

Mehran Barkhordari had also won a silver medal in the men’s -80kg.
