Ali Salajegheh, the head of the Department of Environment (DOE), addressed participants at the COP26 by saying that when it comes to global cooperation and all partners at international level, unfortunately, Iran is facing economic terrorism.
Why are some states such as Iran facing coercive measures, which not only impose agony on nations but also overshadow international strides to overcome climate change for the benefit of human-being, he stated.
According to the Iranian official, this act is somehow a long-term story of taking hostage humanitarian issues for the sake of political objectives of a few powers.
Salajegheh, heading an Iranian delegation, arrived in Glasgow on Monday and met with other heads of delegations and international bodies on the sidelines of the summit.
During a meeting with Carlos Manuel Rodriguez, the CEO and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility, Salajegheh criticized the facility for cutting off the international fund allocated to Iran.
The Iranian deputy president further said that given the fact that environmental issues have negative impact on neighboring countries, he called for the facility’s financial support for Iran.
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) kicked off on Sunday in the presence of thousands of leaders and representatives from 200 countries in Glasgow, Scotland. The participants discuss the most important challenges concerning climate change and environmental crises.
The head of Iran’s environment organization stays for three days in the two-week conference.
Salajegheh pointed to President Ebrahim Raisi’s keenness to take part in the international event, noting that the president could not leave Tehran for the conference because of his busy schedule during his first months of tenure.
The Iranian official also emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran under the guidance of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stands with other nations in fighting climate change and global warming.
Tehran would accept environmental commitments if all anti-Iran sanctions are lifted, the Iranian official stipulated.
