Shamkhani: Upcoming Iraq’s elections significant for continuation of democracy

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani in the meeting with the Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces Falih Al-Fayyadh on Saturday said that the upcoming elections in Iraq are a significant battleground for the continuation of democracy in Iraq.

Appreciating the decisive role of the Popular Mobilization Forces in ensuring security and stability in Iraq, Shamkhani described it as a valuable and lasting memory of the great commanders of the Islamic Resistance Martyr Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes.

Stressing on the need to preserve and strengthen Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces and the need for coordination and synergy of this powerful popular force with the Iraqi army, he added that the unity and cohesion of the Iraqi people, government, and armed forces to provide the ground for sustainable security in the country.

Terming the upcoming elections in Iraq as a significant battleground for the continuation of democracy in this country and stabilizing the effective role of the Iraqi people in determining their futures, he highlighted that the intelligence and cohesion of political, religious, and ethnic groups is one of the inevitable requirements for holding secure elections and preventing foreigners from interfering in this notable political process in Iraq.

Falih Al-Fayyadh, for his part, described political and security stability in the Islamic Republic of Iran as significant and effective in the continuation of sustainable security in the region.
