Iran Opts Further Cooperation with Iraq through 5-Year Doc

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s Minister of Labor Mohammad Shariatmadari said that Tehran is after expansion of mutual cooperation with Baghdad within the framework of a 5-year document which has been finalized.

Shariatmadari said on Sunday that his ministry is seeking to promote bilateral relations with Iraq via the 5-year document, adding, “Ministry of labor will concentrate on expanding Iran’s export markets, especially in neighboring countries.”

“Signing of a five-year document with the Iraqi ministry of labor had been on Iran’s agenda for a while,” he said, adding that Tehran and Baghdad have finalized this document.

According to the minister, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, materials, and construction metals are among the main issues on which Iran and Iraq will be focused in their talks.

During his visit to Baghdad, Shariatmadari will hold meetings with the Iraqi officials in the ministries of labor and finance.

In relevant remarks in late February, Secretary of Iran-Iraq Joint Economic Commission Mohammad Vali Alaeddini announced that the development of mutual cooperation has been accelerated due to the decision made by their joint commission.

“Iraq and Iran enjoy many common social, cultural, religious, political and economic aspects, and we were able to take effective steps to expand relations in different sectorsو including export of products in various fields and development of non-oil exports,” Alaeddini said.

He pointed out that exports of agricultural goods, dairy products, dam construction, water and electricity, and tourism are among the areas agreed upon in the negotiations held with Iraq.

“We hope that the process of export development with neighboring countries, specially Iraq, will be stable and will continue and increase due to Iran’s very desirable capacities,” he added.
