British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian had a phone conversation on Monday evening and exchanged opinions about the situation in the region.

According to the announcement of the British Prime Minister’s Office, Starmer expressed his concern about the situation in the West Asian region and called on all parties to reduce the tension and prevent further regional confrontation.

He said: There is a serious risk of miscalculation and now is the time for calm and careful investigation. We ask Iran to refrain from attacking Israel. Starmer added that war is in no one’s interest.

The British Prime Minister also emphasized his commitment to an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of all prisoners and increased humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and said that now, the focus should be on diplomatic negotiations to achieve these results.

In the continuation of the statement of the British Prime Minister’s Office, it is stated that the leaders of the two countries also agreed in their talks that a constructive dialogue between the UK and Iran is in the interest of both sides.

British media described Monday night as a “busy night of diplomacy” for Starmer, referring to his phone call and the joint statement with the heads of the US and three other European countries regarding possible Iranian retaliatory attacks on Israel.

The anxiety and mental turmoil of the Israeli regime is increasing day by day as Iran has pledged to avenge the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in violation of the country’s sovereignty.

After the assassination and martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian group Hamas, on July 31 in Tehran, as well as the martyrdom of the top commander of Hezbollah, by the Zionist regime in an airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on July 30, tensions have increased in West Asia.

Iran and Hamas consider the Zionist regime responsible for Haniyeh’s assassination and have said that they will respond to this criminal act.

Recently, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Secretary-General of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, in a letter to Volker Türk, emphasizing that without a doubt, the heinous crime of assassinating a high-ranking and official guest of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran is considered a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and international human rights, and it entails the definite responsibility of this criminal regime as well as the inherent right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to legitimate defense, according to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and stated :On the one hand, this terrorist crime is a clear example of “arbitrary killing” and “extrajudicial execution”, which is a violation of the most basic human right, the right to life, which is in the framework of international and valid human rights documents, including Article 6 of the International Covenant Civil and political rights are identified as non-suspendable rights, and their violation is prohibited even in armed conflicts, according to the International Court of Justice.
