The connection of villages with more than 20 households to internet network in Iran has increased to 98.8 percent recently, which is expected to reach 100 percent in the near future.
Seven years ago, the number of villages connected to the national internet was only 11 percent, and the figure stood at zero when the incumbent administration kicked off its work in 2013.
As a result of efforts made by the administration of President Hassan Rouhani and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, the internet network has jumped around 90 percent in rural areas.
The administration attaches importance to deprived and underdeveloped areas in order to promote social justice and resistance economy.
The connection of rural areas to national information networks has paved the ground for developing businesses depending on the internet.
The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology had been obliged to provide villages with over 20 households with an internet network, but it succeeded in connecting more than 98 percent of villages with such a condition to the national internet network.
100 percent of the Iranian provinces of Qom, Yazd and Alborz have been linked to the internet, and the network is available for five other provinces at the level of nearly 99 percent, which will be in the list of provinces with 100 percent coverage of internet in the near future.
There are also eight provinces, including Fars, Golestan, Semnan, Mazandaran, Gilan, East Azarbaijan, Ilam and North Khorasan with more than 90 percent access to the national internet network.
Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said on Saturday that in terms of population, more than 98% of Iranians in villages and 100% Iranians residing in cities have access to the internet.
