Velayati highlights Iran-Iraq education ties in call with Iraqi President

In a telephone conversation between the head of the board of founders and the board of trustees of the Islamic Azad University Ali Akbar Velayati and Iraq’s President Barham Saleh, both sides emphasized the necessity for the expansion and deepening of Iran-Iraq ties in science and educational fields.

Referring to the positive measures by the Iraqi President and his own meetings with Iraqi officials, Velayati said that there were few countries like Iran and Iraq that have such a level of commonalities.

He said that no countries can be found in the world that experience eight years of war and once the shadow of war is removed, they join each other in brotherhood and honesty.

Former Iranian foreign minister also said that strengthening scientific and education ties at high levels is one of the ways to expand and deepen bilateral ties.

Velayati emphasized that the Islamic Azad University was willing to establish a university in Sulaymaniyah and other regions in Iraq.

President Saleh, in turn, said that he was aware of Dr. Velayati’s opinion about expanding ties between Iran and Iraq and invited him to Baghdad to discuss the issue.

Saleh said that Iraq counts on the communications, cooperation, help and brotherhood of Iran’s Supreme Leader, nation and government.

The Iraqi President also welcomed the establishment of an Islamic Azad University offshoot in Sulaymaniyah and promised to provide any requirement.
