Iran’s Ambassador to the Vienna-based international organizations Kazem Gharibabadi said that Iran had nine days ago informed the UN nuclear watchdog of its intention to fabricate a silicide fuel plate for Tehran Research Reactor (TRR).
Silicide fuel is a modern type of nuclear fuel whose technology is in the hands of a few countries, Gharibabadi told reporters on Tuesday.
He said that Iran had started the research and development process in this regard with natural uranium since three months ago and that it was going to fabricate a new fuel plate with 20 percent enriched uranium.
This would put Iran among the countries pioneer in nuclear technology and significantly improve quality and quantity of radiopharmaceuticals, the diplomat said.
